Bahrain Notice Period 2026: The Flat 30-Day Rule

→ Open the Bahrain Notice Period Calculator

Bahrain keeps its notice-period rule simple: 30 days, flat, for everyone.

The rule

Article 99(a) of the Labour Law gives either party — employer or employee — the right to end an employment contract with 30 days written notice. There is no sliding scale by years of service — that variation applies to Bahrain's separate leaving-indemnity payout, not to notice.

Contractual variations

An employer can agree to a longer notice period in your contract, but such a clause only binds the employer — you can still resign on the statutory 30 days regardless of what the contract says.

Payment in lieu

If notice is not served, the wage basis for the payout is your basic wage plus any social/cost-of-living allowance (Article 47) — not your full gross package.

Worked example

BHD 500 basic + BHD 50 social allowance, notice paid in lieu: (500+50) ÷ 30 × 30 = BHD 550.

Frequently asked questions

How much notice is required in Bahrain?

A flat 30 days for either party, regardless of length of service, under Article 99(a) of the Labour Law.

Does the Bahrain notice period increase with years of service?

No. Unlike Bahrain's leaving indemnity (which does scale with service), the notice period is a flat 30 days for everyone.

Can my contract set a longer notice period?

Yes, but a longer period only binds the employer — you can still resign with just 30 days notice.

What salary is used to calculate payment in lieu of notice?

Your basic wage plus any social/cost-of-living allowance, under Article 47.
