How to Work Out UK Statutory Notice Pay
→ Open the UK Notice Pay Calculator
The steps
- Find your complete years of continuous service.
- Employer notice = 1 week under 2 years; then 1 week per complete year; capped at 12 weeks.
- Notice pay = weeks × your full weekly pay (no redundancy cap).
Worked example
9 years' service, £700/week: employer must give 9 weeks. If paid in lieu → 9 × £700 = £6,300.
At 14 years it would still be capped at 12 weeks (£8,400 at £700/week).
The notice pay calculator does this for employer or employee notice instantly.
Frequently asked questions
Is notice pay capped at £751?
No — that cap is for redundancy pay. Notice pay is your normal full weekly wage for each week of notice.
Does resigning change my notice?
As an employee your statutory notice is just 1 week after a month's service, but your contract may require more.
