How to Calculate Long Service Leave

→ Open the Long Service Leave Calculator

NSW steps

  1. After 10 years you have 2 months (8.67 weeks); accrual works out to ~0.867 weeks per year.
  2. Between 5 and 10 years, pro-rata is only paid if the employer ended it (not misconduct), you resigned for illness/pressing necessity, or on death.

Victoria steps

  1. Accrue 1/60th of total service (≈0.867 weeks/year).
  2. Paid out on termination after 7 years, any reason.

Worked example

9 years, $1,500/week ordinary pay: 9 × 52/60 = 7.8 weeks. In Victoria that's paid out (7+ years) = $11,700; in NSW only if the job ended in a qualifying way. Use the LSL calculator to check your state.
