In the Philippines, what an employee receives when a job ends depends heavily on the cause of separation, under the Philippine Labor Code. Authorized-cause dismissals — redundancy or the installation of labour-saving devices — pay one month's wage per year of service; retrenchment, closure or disease pays half a month's wage per year, with a one-month minimum. A part-year of six months or more counts as a full year.

Voluntary resignation generally carries no separation pay unless the contract or a collective bargaining agreement says otherwise. Separately, employees aged 60 to 65 with at least five years of service are entitled to retirement pay of 22.5 days' wage per year.
