When a Canadian job ends without cause, the law sets a statutory minimum you're owed β but it's often just a floor. The Ontario Employment Standards Act provides termination (notice) pay up to 8 weeks and, for long-service employees of larger employers, separate severance pay up to 26 weeks. Federally regulated jobs follow the Canada Labour Code instead, with graduated notice and its own severance formula.
You're also owed accrued vacation pay (4%/6% in Ontario, 4%/6%/8% federally). Estimate each below β and remember common-law reasonable notice can exceed these minimums.
